3M TWIST Program

2008 Program Dates: June 16 – July 25
Location: St. Paul, Minnesota
Application deadline: January 25, 2008

Program Description:

Each year 3M invites teachers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area to participate in the 3M TWIST program (Teachers Working in Science and Technology) offered in collaboration with the Minnesota High Technology Association Foundation. This program is intended to provide a six week industrial science experience for Grades 8-12 Science, Math, Tech Ed., and Industrial Arts teachers under the supervision of a 3M scientist. Information sessions are held over the lunch hour on a variety of topics including intellectual property and product development as well as tours of pilot plants and research facilities.

This opportunity offers a $4000 stipend to the participating teachers as well as an opportunity to earn up to 4 graduate level semester credits through St. Mary’s University. Attached is a link to the 3M website (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/CommunityAffairs/CommunityGiving/US/SciencePlus/Teachers/TWIST/ ) briefly explaining the program as well as an application form to be returned to TWIST Program Chair.

There are 25 positions available. In 2008 first preference will be given to physical science (biology, chemistry, physics) teachers from the St. Paul, Minneapolis, and South Washington County school districts. Experience suggests that there will be more positions available than qualified candidates from the targeted districts so interested teachers are encouraged to apply early. Teachers selected to participate will receive notice in February.

Please contact the TWIST Program Chair by one of the methods below if you have any questions.
