The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announces the first edition of "Minnesota Environment," a new magazine providing information and solutions for improving the state's air, land and water. This quarterly publication will appear in both printed and on-line editions. The first edition features articles on the 'dead zone' in the Gulf of Mexico; sprawl in Northern Minnesota; the impacts of salt-pile run-off on fish; and a profile of an advisory council helping to assess and reduce toxic metals in products made and sold in Minnesota. The Office of Environmental Assistance has just published "2000 Digest of Resources for Building Sustainable Communities," a compilation of selected information from e-mails sent biweekly to members of the Minnesota Sustainable Communities Network (MnSCN), January 28 1999 to December 30 1999. The purpose of these updates is to assist Minnesotans in promoting attitudes and practices that are economically, socially and environmentally sound. The categories are agriculture/forestry, building design and operation, business practices and economic development, community development and design, directories and data, education, energy, land use, transportation, water (wastewater and watersheds), and background on sustainability.
