Job Description / Duties

Teacher Duties:
Support students in project-based learning related to STEAM, work with Chinese co-teachers, help supervise and teach students in collaboration with Chinese-based co-teachers and provide an academically stimulating and enjoyable environment.

Benefits/Compensation for Teachers:
International flights and Chinese visa fees will be reimbursed for Teachers, and housing and meals will be provided for Teachers during the program. After the two STEAM Camp sessions (July 7-20 and July 21-August 3), Teachers will go together on a one-week group tour of China (the Chengdu Pandas, and the Beijing Great Wall, etc.), and travel, lodging, and meals will be provided during that time. This is a unique opportunity to learn from and teach young people in a different cultural context. There will be many opportunities to learn about Chinese culture, language, and education and to engage in cultural exchanges with Chinese co-teachers and students. The connections, collaborations, and friendships can definitely be maintained after the program.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:
Teachers should have a university degree or above and have a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math (STEAM) background, i.e., STEAM-related major(s), STEAM working experience or STEAM-based project experience (at least one of them is satisfactory). Native/highly proficient English speakers are preferred. An application, interview, and evidence of background check are required.

Travel Availability (Location and Dates):
The STEAM Camp will be held in Chongqing, China, and on-site training in China will occur a few days before July 7th (starting approx. July 3). Teachers will participate in two sessions occurring July 7-20 and July 21-August 3. The post-camp China tour provided to Teachers lasts until approx. Aug 10.

Employer Profile

We are currently seeking science, art and music Teachers for two-week, English language summer camps focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) to be held in Chongqing, China during the summer of 2019. Teachers will participate in China from approx. July 3 to August 10, 2019.

Background
The English language STEAM Camp curriculum is designed for Chinese students at a level equivalent to that of U.S. students just finishing 9th grade. Activities planned for study include robotics; computer-assisted design and 3D printing; music, singing, and musical instruments; environment-, outdoor-, and nature-related activities; pottery and sculpting; dance, painting, and drawing; biology and health-related topics; engineering, physics, and flight-related activities; leadership, public speaking, and personal growth activities; critical thinking and intercultural skills; language activities and more. There will be opportunities for Teachers to contribute to the curriculum as well.

The program will be held on the grounds of a fully equipped, modern school with access to excellent classrooms, laboratory equipment, computers, art facilities, etc. This is a residential program for the students, and there will be separate, non-teaching staff to work with the students outside of their academic camp activities. The STEAM Camp is operated through a collaboration between the 21st Century Baifu Academy (Nanjing, Jiangsu, China), the Ministry of Education, and local school systems in the Chongqing, China area.
