Job Description / Duties

Candidates should bring experience teaching and engaging middle school students across all foundational science content areas, including Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science in addition to a strong academic background in these fields. Collaboration across disciplines and within the department is essential to the success of the teacher as well as the program. Training and experience working with middle school students in computer science, math, engineering, and robotics preferred. Additional responsibilities include: management and oversight of students throughout the day (including recess and quiet study periods), chaperoning of various events throughout the school year, participation in after-school events and overnight trips as assigned, participation in faculty meetings and forums, documentation and development of curriculum, and reporting to families. Demonstrated experience working with adolescents is essential, as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong candidates will have experience teaching full time in a Middle School environment.

All candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Training and experience in Developmental Designs for Middle School preferred. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Middle School.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree required.
