The Center for Great Lakes Literacy and Great Lakes Sea Grant Network invite teachers working with 5th-12th grade students and informal educators with a Great Lakes focus to apply for a spot at the 2020 Lake Michigan Shipboard Science Workshop.  This is a unique, expenses-paid, educators’ workshop aboard the U.S. EPA’s R/V Lake Guardian cruising on Lake Michigan from July 6-12, 2020. The cruise will start and end in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Applicants must reside in a Great Lakes state.

Fifteen educators will be immersed in Great Lakes science and pedagogy. Participants will assist scientists Paris Collingsworth (Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant/GLNPO), Maureen Coleman (University of Chicago), and Derek Ager (USEPA GLNPO) collecting data on water chemistry, microbes, zooplankton, larval fish, and studying food web dynamics, all while living aboard the R/V Lake Guardian.  Port stops will provide additional opportunities to learn about Great Lakes recreation, history and stewardship.
