From Center for Great Lakes Literacy:

Dear Minnesota and Wisconsin Center for Great Lakes Literacy Educators,

You're invited to the virtual workshop series, Trimming our Sails: Land-Based Workshops about the Great Lakes and Inland Waters! Read on to learn more about the series and to register.

Workshop theme: Great Lakes and the Human Connection (Great Lakes Literacy Principle #6).

Workshop series summary: Join Minnesota and Wisconsin Sea Grant for a 6 week workshop series that explores Great Lakes Literacy Principle 6: How the Great Lakes influence humans, and how humans influence the Great Lakes. Learn from educators who have participated in shipboard science workshops, researchers, and Center for Great Lakes Literacy staff about Great Lakes science along with classroom and field applications.

Why? Learn about the Great Lakes, meet new or reunite with colleagues, touch base with scientists and other professionals, share your experiences, and earn a stipend for participating in four of the six workshops and completing an action plan (up to 10 stipends per state so register early). Additionally, teachers who sign up for both macroinvertebrate sessions will become eligible to enter a drawing to win a Leaf Pack Network leaf pack kit.

Who should attend the workshop series? The workshop series is open to any 4th through 12th grade formal, non-formal, or informal educator in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Registration is required so a Zoom link can be sent.

Joyful Hours: Each of the workshops in the series will be followed by a themed “Joyful Hour.”  This optional event will provide a chance for returning educators to reconnect with shipboard science colleagues and share successes with new and returning educators. Additionally, educators new to the Center for Great Lakes Literacy will learn about programming and related topics. While “Joyful Hours” are optional, registration is required so we have an estimate of how many people to expect.

Who should attend the Joyful Hours? Teachers and educators who have participated in Center for Great Lakes Literacy shipboard science workshops or are interested in learning more about Center for Great Lakes Literacy training opportunities and resources.

Where are these events taking place? Anywhere you have the ability to participate via Zoom.
