The Minnesota Department of Education is moving forward with the formal rulemaking process for the proposed rules related to Minnesota's K-12 Academic Standards in Science. The Request for Comments was published in the State Register on Monday, July 29, 2019. The department has completed the Statement of Need and Reasonableness (SONAR) and the final proposed rule draft. These documents are available on the department’s K-12 Academic Standards in Science webpage.

The Dual Notice of Adoption will be published in the State Register on Monday, May 17, 2021. Interested parties may submit written comments on the proposed rule language and valid hearing requests for 30 days following the publication. The comment period ends at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021. If the department receives 25 or more valid hearing requests, a virtual public hearing will be held before an administrative law judge starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021. Please review the dual notice posted on the department’s K-12 Academic Standards in Science webpage for information about how to submit a comment on the proposed rule language, how to submit a valid hearing request, and details on the possible virtual rulemaking hearing.

Additional relevant rulemaking documents will be posted on the department’s K-12 Academic Standards in Science webpage as they become available. If you have questions about the rulemaking process, contact the department’s rulemaking coordinator, Kerstin Forsythe Hahn, (651) 582-8583.
