WORK DESCRIPTION:
Climate Generation recognizes the complexity of climate change and the importance of interdisciplinary climate change education. Climate Generation believes educators are trusted messengers of climate change literacy for their communities and their students, and to create a future where we can all thrive they need support to build their capacity and confidence to teach climate change. The climate change education program builds educators competence to teach climate change in their educational setting by providing curriculum resources, professional development and ongoing support. Climate Generation’s curriculum resources are aligned to science, social studies, and language arts standards and encourage students to think beyond science alone. Climate Generation also values Traditional Ecological Knowledge, social justice education, and STEM education.

Your Team: The Education Team is a team of four that primarily work independently, but collaborate throughout various projects. Our team members are dispersed throughout Minnesota and the Northeast United States with monthly in-person meetings for Minnesota based staff, and annual in-person meetings for the full team. We are inclusive, agile, creative, and goal-oriented. We are inspired by our mission, vision, and values, and the future of our organization. We come together weekly at Education Team Meetings to build community and our shared expertise, and to offer support to one another. Each team member meets with the Education Team Manager weekly or bi-monthly to stay aligned with the overall strategic vision of the program and to receive support for their individual projects.

Your Role: As the Regional Education Coordinator for Climate Generation, you will be the first point of contact for teachers and other stakeholders in education seeking professional learning opportunities to build their climate change literacy and their climate change educational practice in Minnesota. The Regional Education Coordinator supports a Minnesota wide regional education program in the area of climate change education, renewable energy, and green careers, particularly developing professional learning experiences for middle school educators and students. This position will be required to travel to the Climate Generation office for a monthly in-person meeting.

Essential Functions:

Program Support (70%)
Building from institutional knowledge and/or external experience, research, design, and implement workshops and training for educators on climate change, renewable energy, connecting with local community
Work with the Climate Change Education manager to develop school district partnerships and serve as regional district liaison with partner schools.
Assist with differentiation of Climate Generation’s current and future curriculum and instructional resources, as well as partner resources, to support educators in the implementation of climate change education into their curriculum.
Understand and monitor state and federal education standards, including STEAM, ELA, history, and social justice, influencing the teaching of climate change education within the region.
Develop, implement, and when appropriate lead programs and projects with community partners, ensuring outcomes are aligned with education program mission and current education practice.
Work directly with the Climate Change Education Manager to develop a comprehensive annual work plan
Work directly with the education team to plan and convene collaborative meetings with community leaders in identified communities in Minnesota.
Collaborate closely with other program teams, specifically Youth and Communications, on project specific tasks

Communications (10%)
Minnesota Climate Change Education marketing to include: creating and executing a plan that includes new and established partnerships, as well as expanding the reach by finding new audiences
Work with Programs Coordinator to market the education program at conferences, through community and organizational calendars and direct contacts and through the development of the monthly educator e-newsletter, Teach Climate Tips

Development (5%)
Support Climate Change Education Manager and Senior Director of Programs with budget management as it relates to programming
Coordinate participant registration for state level professional learning opportunities, including partnering with the Programs Coordinator, Senior Finance Manager, and Systems Administrator to develop a comprehensive registration system, manage communications and problem solve around emergent issues.
Support the the organization with program evaluation and events support

Organizational Engagement & Health (15%)
Engage in team functions including events, team meetings, strategic planning, and marketing
Ensure external programming and internal culture aligns with organizational commitment to equity and anti-racism
Coordinate with Programs Coordinator on volunteer needs, event logistics, program materials, and vendor relations
Seek opportunities to grow professionally and encourage professional development of supervised staff

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range for this position is between $42,000-$45,000 based on experience and qualifications
Full-time, exempt position, working 40 hours per week
20 days of PTO (increases with years of employment), 6 paid holidays and a holiday break from December 24th through January 1

If located in Metro, located in the Greenway building with access to biking trails and light-rail transit, as well as indoor bike storage area and showers
Travel reimbursement provided for Greater MN employees to attend monthly meetings in Twin Cities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
At least one to three years of experience in a related field or experience developing engaging educational materials, specifically instructional design and/or teacher training
Some college education is helpful, and/or service work in Americorps Climate Impact Corps-MN graduate, or micro credentials in leadership, facilitating groups, or environmental education from the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)
Understanding of and/or experience using educational standards as a framework for developing learning arcs and benchmarks for educational resources
Solid understanding of climate justice, and environmental or STEM educational pedagogy and standards demonstrated through coursework or real world application
Terrific oral and written communication skills
Excellent organization skills, specifically with time management and ability to multitask. Must be detail oriented and self-motivated
Commitment to antiracism with experience in racially and geographically diverse communities
High attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and responsibilities with consistent follow-through
Ability to work with small and dedicated team
Ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings
Comfortable with technology including Zoom, Microsoft/Apple software, Dropbox, Asana (content management system), Google docs, Slack
Occasional nights and weekend work commitments

Preferred qualifications:
Ability to communicate intersectional concepts for multiple learners at different levels of understanding
Education or training in education
Ability to seek out, analyze, and communicate new information, data, and approaches that would be of use to education program materials and outreach
