Job Description / Duties

Provide leadership to the application of Environment as Integrating Context (EIC) within the K-6 instructional program and teach environmental education lessons for all grade-levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provide leadership to the application of Environment as Integrating Context (EIC) within the K-6 instructional program and other activities necessary to facilitate EIC opportunities when appropriate.
 Plan, facilitate and document EIC activities with teachers, including annual calendar of multidisciplinary activities that address EIC grade-level inquiries and other environmental, standards addressed, and assessments for each grade level.
 Facilitate the continual assessment and improvement of an EIC approach including; interdisciplinary, cooperative, student-centered, team-taught, issue- based, locally-focused, and integrating technology and service learning.
 Coordinate EIC-related events and themes.
 Manage and integrate into curriculum, EIC-related school resources and facilities such as the greenhouse, solar panels, Weather Bug, and School Forest.
 Develop partnerships with staff, students and community to encourage the integration of EIC into the school’s curriculum and instruction across all grade levels.
2. Deliver Environmental Education lessons to K-6 students in accordance with Minnesota Environmental Literacy scope and sequence and Minnesota academic standards.
 Demonstrate innovative teaching strategies which allow students greater ownership of their learning, including: guided discovery, student self-assessment, incorporation of multi-age groupings, community presenters, on and off-site outdoor learning, service learning, and partnerships with community agencies, businesses and organizations.
 Create an environment with students that encourage appropriate behavior through clear expectations, positive feedback and logical consequences by using Responsive Classroom ideology.
3. Oversite of school greenhouse maintenance, curriculum and planting.
 Work with Greenhouse Committee on K-6 curriculum goals.
 Coordinate with classroom teachers on greenhouse planting, assist teachers and lead lessons.
 Organize tools and supplies.
 Monitor the healthy growth of plants, weed and trim, and water when necessary, assist with replanting when needed.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Licensure:
 Environmental Education degree/certification/experience
 Elementary teaching license preferred

Knowledge of:
 Minnesota K-6 academic standards
 Minnesota Environmental Literacy scope and sequence

Experience:
 Developing and presenting lessons with elementary students
 In environmental issues, service and educational strategies
