Yesterday, Jason Somenow of the Washington Post's  Capitol Weather Gang reported that "a new analysis from the University of Wisconsin's Space Science and Engineering Center has determined that Harvey is a 1-in-1000 year flood event." The essay includes some graphics and a short video on why Harvey was so darn powerful. Emphasis added. 

 

The emphasis was added. I had to do this to let it sink into my skull.  It was as Somenow noted "unprecedented in scale."  And that scale is not easy to grasp.
