Teaching the Standards Outdoors

This session focuses on hands-on strategies teachers can immediately use to replace or adapt lessons tied to standards they already teach, rather than adding extra content. Participants will explore practical ways to bring math, language arts, and science outdoors through cross-curricular planning that extends learning beyond the classroom while increasing student engagement.

Please bring outdoor clothing and gear as part of this session will take place outdoors. Snacks will be provided. Please bring your own beverage and/or water bottle.
Presenter: Jenn Heyer
Jenn has been an elementary educator in Minnesota since 2001 and regularly taking students outside since 2015. Jenn has been honored with numerous teaching awards, including the 2019 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators and the 2019 MN Environmental Educator of the Year. In 2020, she became a National Geographic Certified Educator.
