MnCOSE Keynotes and Workshops

MnSTA proudly welcomes nationally recognized science author Page Keely to present the Saturday morning keynote address to our conference!

Page will also present a three hour workshop on Saturday morning in Mankato titled "Formative Assessment Workshop-Tools and Strategies for Informing Instruction and Promoting Learning in Science."

This 3 hour workshop will provide a rationale, tools, and strategies for using a continuous cycle of formative assessment in the science classroom to:
  • elicit student thinking
  • check for transfer of learning
  • engage students in learning
  • provide feedback
  • encourage metacognition
  • springboard into inquiry
  • monitor for conceptual change
  • support skills of argumentation

We welcome both conference participants and all science teachers, principals, curriculum specialists, district administrators who work with science.  This workshop is also open to NON-Conference participants for a fee.  If you're not registered for the Science Conference and you would like to register ONLY for this event, please use this form.

Page Keely is currently the senior science program director at the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA).  She is a former NSTA President and the author of ten nationally published books including four in the Curriculum Topic Study series, four volumes in the Uncovering Student Ideas in Science: 25 Formative Assessment Probes series, Science Formative Assessment: 75 Practical Strategies for Linking Assessment, Instruction, and Learning, and Mathematics Formative Assessment: 50 Practical Strategies for Linking Assessment, Instruction, and Learning (in press). USIS
