by , posted on 1:58 PM, September 27, 2018
Come and experience the active volcanoes of the Big Island of Hawaii. This trip will give you deep knowledge of volcanoes – their processes and products and how humans live with the hazards they pose. Learn about classroom activities and experience the real world of volcanology in the field.

This past spring/summer, we witnessed an extraordinary eruption on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Join us this August, 2019 as we travel to the Big Island to study its eruption.  During this trip, you will walk across a volcanic caldera, visit green and black sand beaches, snorkel, observe green sea turtles, map a lava cave, calculate the volume of lava flows, map a volcanic event, identify and collect volcanic samples such as ash, cinders, scoria, and others, record and collect data, keep a field notebook, and much, much more!  You will also receive classroom activities to use. This trip is open to all K-12 science educators, as well as pre-service science educators. For more information, please visit www.geoetc.com or see the trip flyer.
