2023 Engineering Machine Design Contest theme: Into Orbit - Transforming Space Technology

The Engineering Machine Design Contest is an opportunity for 5th-12th grade youth to learn about and explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematic principles while having fun in a collaborative environment. Teams of 3-12 youth work together to design and build a complex machine using everyday objects. The completed machine will use multiple steps to complete a simple task

The 2023 Engineering Machine Design Contest theme has been finalized:

Into Orbit | Transforming Space Technology.

 

COMPETITION:
The date for the regional competition hosted at SCSU is set for Friday, March 31, 2023 with a tentative duration from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. For the schools that advance, the championship round will be hosted on Friday, April 21, 2022 (location TBD).

 

The 2023 handbook has been updated. As your students begin to prepare their designs, please encourage them to read this closely to ensure they are up-to-date.

 

New coaches have an opportunity to join the Coach Mentorship Program for guidance from a seasoned coach.  Additionally, experienced coaches have the opportunity to receive $100 for recruiting or helping a new coach. If you are interested in either aspect of the Coach Mentorship Program, please visit the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence website here for more information.

 

REGISTRATION:

With this announcement, we are ready for pre-registration. Official registration is expected to open by the end of November 2022, but you may reserve your team’s spot with the pre-registration form found here (space is limited).

Cost will be $15/student – please check back for financial support opportunities including the existing Team Registration Scholarship Application.

Those seeking assistance for bussing students to and from the competition are also encouraged to contact your local Perkins Consortium: Minnesota State - Perkins V Consortia Members (minnstate.edu). Communities located near the SCSU regional competition site would reach out to the Great River Consortium. If you need assistance identifying your Perkins Consortium, please reach out.
