St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for the position of Upper School Physics and Computer Science Teacher.

Positions Begins: August 2019

Job Description:
Given the school’s recent opening of the Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center, a $25 million dollar facility which provides distinctive, state-of-the-art resources for math, science, computer science, robotics, and engineering, this is an exceptional opportunity for any teacher looking to help grow and shape a dynamic program.

This is an on-going, full-time appointment open to applicants with the expertise and acumen to teach both physics and computer science courses effectively and thoughtfully.

We seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for working with young people and who will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA, the vision of the Upper School, and be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued and where openness to growth is the norm.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Requirements:
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in physics, computer science, or a closely related field, although a masters degree in one of these target disciplines is preferred. Proficiency in at least two programming languages is desired, with a preference for Java, or a track record and willingness to learn new programming languages as needed. Candidates should also have experience teaching algebra-based physics in a student-centered classroom, with a preference for knowledge and experience in the modeling instruction approach to science pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have experience with project-based learning and demonstrated enthusiasm for course development and modification.
