Science Teachers as Public Health Educators in a Pandemic: A National Study of K–12 Science Instruction

by , posted on 10:29 AM, April 12, 2022
This study, conducted by Horizon Research with a grant from the National Science Foundation, will examine the ongoing impacts of COVID on teachers’ science instruction more than 2 years into the pandemic. Additionally, the study will investigate the impacts of the pandemic on teachers themselves (e.g., workload, physical/mental wellness, job satisfaction).

Calling all K–12 Teachers of Science!

Science Teachers as Public Health Educators in a Pandemic:
A National Study of K–12 Science Instruction

Science teachers, from Kindergarten to 12th grade, have played a critical role in providing accurate and timely information about COVID to their students. In this way, teachers have filled an important public health function. But how does the pandemic continue to influence science instruction nearly two years later? How has teaching about COVID evolved? What are the impacts of the pandemic on science teachers themselves?

With a grant from the National Science Foundation, Horizon Research, Inc. is trying to answer these questions. If you have taught science at any point during the pandemic, we need your input, whether or not you have taught about COVID. Our goal is to have several thousand science teachers from across the country complete an online questionnaire. The results will inform the national conversation about how the pandemic has affected K–12 science teachers and their instruction. All teachers who complete a survey will be entered into a drawing for 1 of 50 $100 cash awards.
