We Share Solar is offering Minneapolis and St. Paul area middle and high school teachers a fully-funded opportunity to join Power2Share. After school programs (serving high or middle school age) will also be considered. Learning will focus on the science of solar, climate change, and innovation. Participating teachers will be given full access to a student-facing virtual learning platform and a curriculum library that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. In addition, each teacher will receive two Solar Suitcase kits (standalone solar electric systems) that come complete with solar lab materials and tools. One Solar Suitcase will stay in the classroom as a solar demo and source of backup power for emergency preparedness. The second Solar Suitcase will be sent to East Africa to be installed in a school or community center that lacks access to reliable electricity.
In addition to the online self-paced teacher training resources available, we will bring the cohort together for a one-day in-person teacher workshop to build and practice using Solar Suitcases. This will be held in Minneapolis on Wednesday August 16th, location TBD. Teachers will receive a $200 participation stipend.
Power2Share offers teachers flexibility on when to implement the program throughout the 2023-24 school year. Core lessons take approximately 5-10 hours, including hands-on lab activities. The curriculum aligns well with NGSS standards. We are excited to offer this asynchronous and virtual STEM solar and community service program at no cost to schools.
