Biotechnology Training Courses for Teachers

BTC Institute in Madison, WI is offering two biotechnology courses with stipends available for teachers in June and July.

Biotechnology: The Basics (June 26-30, 2023; 9:00am – 4:00pm)

This course is designed to introduce teachers to the fundamentals of biotechnology. Topics typically covered include: micropipetting, DNA structure & function, nucleic acid extraction, restriction enzyme digestion, PCR, genetic transformation, NASA connections and more.

Biotechnology: Beyond the Basics (July 10-14, 2023; 9:00am – 4:00pm)

This laboratory-based course is designed for teachers to learn and practice advanced biotechnology techniques used in molecular biology. Topics typically covered include: protein purification, CRISPR, DNA sequencing, STR analysis, biomanufacturing, NASA connections and more.

For both courses: Enrollment is limited to 16 participants, who may be eligible to receive a $625 stipend. See online registration form for details on how to apply. In order to receive a stipend, teachers must submit a 2-3 page summary report to the BTC Institute during Academic Year 2023-2024 that documents how selected course content was implemented with students and colleagues. Optional Graduate Credit will be available.
