MDE Mathematics Specialist Sara Van Der Werf and MDE Science Specialist Angela Kolonich hosted a webinar last August about what 'Modeling' looks like in math and science courses and how this practice promotes critical thinking and reasoning. A recording of that webinar along with links to resources is now available.

MDE Science & Math Series: Part 1 Modeling, A Common Practice in Math and Science Description: The 2019 MN Science Standards Practice #2 - Developing and Using Models - is similar to the 2022 Math Standards Practice #4 - Model with Mathematics. Come learn from the MDE Science and Math Specialists about what 'Modeling' looks like in math and science courses and how this practice promotes critical thinking and reasoning. This is an interactive webinar, we will even do an experiment virtually. You will get the most out if it if you attend on via computer vs a phone, but all are invited. You will need a writing utensil, one sheet of paper and 10 inches of scotch tape to participate in the experiment. Resources from this session are found HERE.
