The Adopt-a-Drain program is free and allows residents to adopt and name a storm drain to keep clear of leaves, trash, and debris. It is a perfect classroom activity as it combines Citizen Science and Service Learning components to help educators flexibly integrate waterway protection practices into their classroom, school, and community.

Hamline University is proud to work with teachers who use Adopt-a-Drain to teach students about protecting local waterways.

There is no minimum participation requirement and the program is accessible to all grade levels or subject areas.

FREE BONUS.... Adopt-a-Drain K-12 for Educators! In addition, Hamline University is now working with cities (Minneapolis and Duluth), counties (Hennepin County), and watershed districts (Capitol Region Watershed District and Nine Mile Creek Watershed District) to create and fund free support materials to make the Adopt-a-Drain program even easier for teachers to implement in the classroom. We deliver printed classroom materials, online training, newsletter support,  as well as student incentives to create a well-rounded learning experience around stormwater pollution and run-off issues. To view or sign up for support materials please visit our Adopt-a-Drain K-12 for Educators site!
