Job Description / Duties

This position leads SciMathMN in overseeing operations and carrying out our mission in partnership with our board of directors. In this role you will drive strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder relationships. We anticipate the Executive Director will conduct work remotely yet be located near the Twin Cities metro area in order to access key constituents as needed such as meetings and events. Work will vary with hours throughout the year ranging from 10-25 hours per week.

We are a volunteer-based organization, guided by a Board of Directors with multi-sector representation from the K-12, higher education, nonprofit, and business community. SciMathMN is 501c (3) nonprofit, funded through contributed revenue from individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as earned revenue from events.

Qualifications / Required Skills

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Executive Director plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of SciMathMN, fostering a vibrant STEM community, and ensuring the organization's sustainable growth and impact. The primary responsibilities include the following

Strategic Leadership and Vision:
● Work closely with the Board of Directors and committees to deliver on the organization's strategic goals.
● Develop and maintain a clear vision for the organization, ensuring alignment with the broader STEM ecosystem in Minnesota.
● Foster collaboration among ecosystem partners to advance the organization's vision.

Operational Management:
● Oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and efficient use of resources.
● Manage financial aspects, including maintaining financial records, overseeing accounts, and managing monthly cash flow.
● Implement and support efficient processes to facilitate the organization's work.
● Ensure organizational records and files are kept in a logical and retrievable order.
● Support the Chair and committee chairs in their respective roles and responsibilities.

Event Coordination and Project Management:
● Coordinate the logistics of the organization's events, working with consultants and committees as needed (e.g., STEM Day at the Fair).
● Oversee and manage various projects, ensuring they align with the organization's mission and goals.

Communication and Marketing:
● Oversee all external communications, including the management of the website, marketing materials, newsletters, and social media.
● Serve as the face of the organization at external events to enhance visibility and credibility.
● Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies to grow engagement and participation in the organization.

Fundraising and Financial Development:
● Develop and implement actionable plans for fundraising.
● Network and connect with potential funders (e.g., 3M, Boston Scientific, Xcel Energy, Andersen Corporation, MnDOT, Target) and partners (e.g., MDE, MNSTA, MCTM, MTEEA, CSTA, MNTech) to discuss sponsorship opportunities and employee participation in SciMathMN initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement and Networking:
● Represent the organization in state and national networks, attending meetings and staying informed of STEM trends and practices.
● Keep the Board informed of relevant trends, opportunities for participation, and potential collaborations.
● Recruit and engage volunteers and partners, leveraging the network to support the organization's activities and goals.

The ideal candidate demonstrates an ability to balance competing demands and possess strong time management skills to ensure effective prioritization and agility in responding to organizational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
SciMathMN is seeking a combination of the following:
●Familiarity with various parts the STEM ecosystem ranging from Pre-K through higher education, non-profit informal education programs, the STEM business community, and related governmental agencies
●Non-profit or business management
●Grant writing & fundraising experience
●Working with software management system and social media
●Disciplined with time management
●Comfortable working with the public especially with volunteers

Salary: STATUS AND SALARY RANGE: ● The executive director is hired as an independent 1099 contractor, responsible for managing one’s own self-employment reporting processes. Please keep this in mind when considering the salary. ● Contract range: $30,000 - $35,000
