Information on MnCOSE
Hello,

I want to be sure you are aware that the annual conference of the Minnesota Science Teachers Association is happening right here in Mankato in just two short weeks!

The Minnesota Conference on Science Education is the annual conference of our state's professional development organization of science educators.

Our conference runs all day on Friday, Feb 20th and through the morning on Saturday, Feb 21st. We are running over 50 teacher led presentations on Friday over the day in addition to welcoming R.T. Rybak, former Minneapolis Mayor and the Executive Director of "Generation Next" as our keynote speaker.  He'll present "Minnesota's Achievement Gap and What We can Do About It".

We'll celebrate the 50th anniversary of MnSTA on Friday evening, as our event moves to the brand new Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota for a dinner reception and anniversary celebration.

And - on Saturday morning we are offering three workshop opportunities (and a discounted Sat-only registration!):
  • With a focus on ELEMENTARY and MIDDLE SCHOOL teachers, Matt Bobrowsky's, author of "Teaching Science with Gizmos and Gadgets"  will present "Phenomenon Based Learning: Fun, Hands-on Cooperative Learning" will have us using common toys to explore great science in a very hands-on approachable way.
  • With a SECONDARY focus, Bozeman Science Paul Andersen will present "Engineering a Better Science Classroom" about classroom design, the blended learning cycle, educational technology that works and the NGSS.
  • And, our very own Dr. Ginny Nimmo will present a session called "Understanding Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents".  Please note that this session will MEET the Minnesota relicensure requirements for your teaching license!

To accommodate those that can't do a sub and the whole cost of the conference we have a discounted SATURDAY ONLY registration rate of just $75!  For that rate, you can catch both Ginny's session AND one of our two four hour workshops on Saturday - and come away with new tools are resources for your work with kids!

ELEMENTARY Teachers - we've created Matt's saturday workshop just for YOU.  Please consider coming--find more info our website at www.mnsta.org.

I'll be happy to answer any questions that you might have.  I'm really excited to bring this event back to Mankato again this year - and hopeful that many of our local teachers will find an opportunity to attend!

Thanks!!
